Les Libellules was originally a small stone-built farmhouse and was owned by the same family for at least 200 years. We bought the property in early 2002, and named it after the beautiful dragonflies which are regular garden visitors in the summer. The detached house stands in its own large garden, and is quietly situated just outside the main centre of the village. lies in the village of Cuxac-Cabades, nestling in the foothills of the Montagne Noire.

This area is particularly well suited for those who enjoy walking and wildlife, as there are several beautiful walks around, through a variety of landscapes from gentle walks around nearby lakes and woods to steep mountain terrain; through woodland and open moorland; through vineyards and rolling countryside.

There are plenty of things to do nearby, hiking in the hills and woods of this and adjacent villages, horse riding at La Goutarende, a few minutes drive (or 20 minutes walk) away. Walk up the hills around the village and, on a clear day, you will be rewarded by stunning views of the Pyrenees to the south. They are also the backdrop to your drives to Carcassonne, Ariege and the Minervois.

The nearby Canal du Midi, a World Heritage site, can be accessed near Carcassonne and is ideal for those who want a gentle stroll or cycle and a glass of wine at the end of it!

The breathtaking medieval cite of Carcassonne is also a World Heritage site, well worth a visit, and will fascinate children and adults alike. It is also a rich source of excellent restaurants, although there are several good restaurants close to the village.

Don't miss the Cathar Chateaux of Lastours and Saissac close by, or the Gouffre de Cabrespine, one of the world's largest natural chasms and the Grotte de Limousis, both just 15-20 minutes away. The Mediterranean is just 1 hour away.
